The idea for the business came from my teaching experience. I became increasingly aware that as the school curriculum changed, certain schools were finding themselves with machinery and tools that were no longer required, but were still capable of providing years of service.
My concern was that schools were selling this equipment off, sometimes for a fraction of its value, or paying for removal. As a result expensive equipment was being lost from the educational system, when students elsewhere could benefit from it.
Rather than allowing this to happen, or for equipment to languish in store rooms or unused at the back of classrooms, I realised that there was an opportunity to redistribute it wherever possible to other schools, colleges or training establishments. This releases space and raises funds for the school, whilst enabling other schools to purchase used equipment that is still servicable at greatly reduced prices. Where it is not possible to place the equipment into another educational setting, it will be sold on to private buyers or scrapped, again whenever possible raising as much funds for the school. This was the idea behind RBA Machinery and Tools.
